{"id":1163,"date":"2012-05-08T05:01:58","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T10:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newyorkssixth.com\/?p=1163"},"modified":"2021-11-23T10:17:21","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T15:17:21","slug":"jersey-city-flirts-with-bicycle-lanes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newyorkssixth.com\/?p=1163","title":{"rendered":"Jersey City Flirts With Bicycle Lanes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><CENTER><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/newyorkssixth.com\/photos\/20120504\/IMG_4052.jpg\" class=\"img-fluid rounded\" alt=\"Bike lanes planned for Jersey city\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Jersey City has built a bicycle lane to a <del datetime=\"2012-05-04T23:06:35+00:00\">remote Alaskan island<\/del> no where. <\/p>\n<p>While its great to see Jersey City finally experimenting with non-car transportation means, particularly after widening <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.newyorkssixth.com\/?p=888\">Columbus Drive<\/A>, the short segment of bicycle lanes is barely enough to get a bike rolling. <\/p>\n<p>Still we&#8217;ve seen a few bicyclists navigating the double parked cars. <\/p>\n<p>The lanes only run along Grove Street between Grand and Columbus, a route so short that a wrong color traffic light might mean walking the length was faster. <\/p>\n<p>The project is meant as a test case by the city, but for now they are real. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, next door in Hoboken, the mile square city has recently committed to adding 10 miles of bike lanes on the streets. As a proportion of its roads, Hoboken will become the number one city for bike lanes in the United States. <\/p>\n<p>To us it seems a bit odd that the Healy administration still needs to experiment with a &#8220;technology&#8221; proven, literally, the world over.
