{"id":1139,"date":"2012-03-30T07:16:59","date_gmt":"2012-03-30T12:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newyorkssixth.com\/?p=1139"},"modified":"2021-11-23T10:22:15","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T15:22:15","slug":"old-manischewitz-factory-prepped-for-new-towers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newyorkssixth.com\/?p=1139","title":{"rendered":"Old Manischewitz Factory Prepped For New Towers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><CENTER><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/newyorkssixth.com\/photos\/20120329\/IMG_3312.jpg\" class=\"img-fluid rounded\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Just in time for Passover, Jersey City&#8217;s former matzo baking Manischewitz factory is finally meeting the demolition man.  <\/p>\n<p>The Jersey City facility closed in 2007 just after Passover, consolidating operations in Newark (and causing a  <A HREF=\"http:\/\/njjewishnews.com\/njjn.com\/022808\/njManischewitzRunsShort.html\">Tam Tam shortage<\/A>).  The site was then sold to the Toll Brothers along with the former Provost Square development. <\/p>\n<p>Toll Brothers wanted to build towers taller than allowed in the Powerhouse Arts District and eliminate many of the historic components of the site. A deal with the city was brokered where they could build three towers topping off at 38 stories, but would preserve the historic warehouse on the eastern end of the site. They would also construct a theater and public plaza. <\/p>\n<p>Likely renderings of the rather uninspired towers are available at <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.slcearch.com\/current-projects\/provost-square\/\">SLCE Architects<\/A>, the firm responsible for many of the generic towers across Hudson County and New York City.  <\/p>\n<p><center><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/newyorkssixth.com\/photos\/20120329\/IMG_3309.jpg\" class=\"img-fluid rounded\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Above, the site from Morgan Street looking across towards Marin Blvd. <\/p>\n<p><CENTER><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/newyorkssixth.com\/photos\/20120329\/IMG_3311.jpg\" class=\"img-fluid rounded\"><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Above, looking across the site towards Stueben Street.
